Notice anything different about our web site?
The Portland Public Health Division’s web site has been reorganized and enhanced in an effort to make it easier to find the information you want. Above, you will
notice three ‘links’ with the titles Prevent, Promote, and Protect. These three
links correspond with three broad and inclusive areas of public health work.
Prevent includes public health’s role in tracking and keeping diseases from
spreading in our communities. This area features a variety of programs,
including Food Safety, HIV/STD Prevention, Needle Exchange, and Positive Health
Care. Prevent also includes areas like our research and data program, which
gathers information about our community, helping to shape new programs and
initiatives.
Promote represents public health’s commitment to keeping the community healthy
and encouraging positive changes in behavior in the entire community. Promote
includes programs like Minority Health, Maternal and Child Health, Smoke-Free
Housing, and Substance Abuse Prevention.
Protect encompasses public health’s commitment to protect the community at large
and individual members. Protect includes programs like the Cities Readiness
Initiative, Environmental Health, and a guide on Emergency Preparedness. Protect
also includes the Healthcare for the Homeless program, Immunization Services,
the Portland Community Free Clinic, and a new section called Health Services in
Portland, a guide to finding your way around Portland’s health care system.
Take your time and look around the web site. There is a lot of new content all
geared to help you get the answers you need. Please feel free to contact us with
any feedback you may have, and suggestions are always welcome.
